A father of three living in Hampshire, and founder of simply human. I know the cost of being disconnected from yourself. And what becomes possible when you learn to be more present.
I observe myself daily. The patterns still arise, The complexity doesn't go away. But there's a simplicity in the midst of it all. Observing what's happening and choosing my response rather than being run unconsciously.
I founded simply human because I know what it's like to live in my head, caught up in patterns I couldn't see, trying hard to think my way out of being stuck.
For decades, I met the world with my mind, analysing, strategising, and solving problems. But I was continuously tripping myself up, unable to successfully navigate the emotional and relational currents of life.
Exhausted from endlessly moving round in circles, I sought help. The big shift came when I learned to observe myself. To sense how the patterns appeared in my body. To witness what was happening as it happened. To see how predictably I disappeared into automatic reactions as the patterns activated.
This changed everything. And I've spent two decades continuing to learn and practice and support others to navigate their own complex worlds. Leaders, individuals, groups — the same fundamental work of remembering to return to themselves over and over and again.
The simply human approach draws from Fourth Way self-observation practices, somatic awareness, gestalt therapy, and developmental psychology.
But these are just frameworks. The work starts with you.
What's actually happening in your body and in your life right now. What the signature sensations are within you that reveal you're becoming activated. And what the qualities of your essence are when you remember yourself and relax.
The work is simple: learning to be honest with yourself, discovering the deeper truths within, and understand what's blocking you from flourishing.
The work is personal: you're always at the heart of this work as you learn how to hold self compassion and embrace whatever you're revealing about yourself.
The work is developmental: living more freely by being less caught up, and learning patience as you embrace this new shape of self you're becoming.
I've worked across many sectors and with a host of diverse organisations. From startups to strategic consulting, counsellors to councillors, and farmers to pharma. I feel very grateful to work with people who are genuinely committed to their growth, and it's always a privilege to work with someone who's ready to see themselves honestly.
Some of the organisations I've had as clients include:
My first love was Science, particularly Chemistry. I did PhD research in quantum chemistry at the University of East Anglia in the late 80's and early 90's. And over the years, my thirst to know has shifted from the scientific to the psychological to the spiritual to the somatic. Some of my personal influences are Einstein, Gurdjieff, Red Hawk, Rumi, Watts,
